If you’ve watched the news over the last week or so I’m sure you’ve seen the coverage on the two USF Students (Nisreen Swedberg and Sarah Williams) who were escorted off a Southwest Airlines plane. They claim, according to Williams, they were discriminated against because
“we were young, decent-looking girls. I mean nobody else on the plane looked like us, except us.”
What does this have to do with Porsche? Good question.
After listening to this story (I hesitate to call it news) I started thinking about the idea of profiling and if Porsche owners get profiled incorrectly by the general public as well as the police. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve been driving through a residential neighborhood, going at or below the speed limit (with cars in front of and behind me) when an irate parent comes racing down their driveway or lawn to yell at me to SLOW DOWN! Come on, I’m in a line of traffic, I’m going no faster than the car in front of me or behind me, yet they choose to single me out. Why? Is it because I’m in a Porsche? You bet.
Do Porsche Drivers Get Profiled?
Listen, I’m not going to lie to you, I speed. Hell, I even wrote a whole series of posts about it. However, I pick my spots and I never do it in my local town or other small towns where it can be excessively dangerous to others and to my wallet (lots of local speed traps). Given that I’m so careful about staying within the speed limits while driving on local roads how is it that I’m constantly being pulled over? The number one reason I get from the officer pulling me over, “you look like you were driving fast.”
If that’s not profiling, then I don’t know what is. I think it is a testament to the styling of a 911, but it really is a pain. So, here’s the point of my post and the introduction to this week’s poll. Do you think Porsche drivers are profiled as speeders by the police and general public?
I’ll leave the poll up for a while and will post the results over the next week or two. Let me know what you think and if you have ever been profiled in your Porsche.
