Flat Black Porsches
In 2006 you may have started to hear a car referred to as being “murdered out”. I say may have because if you’re not in your late teens or early 20’s and/or have some kids at home, you may not be familiar with the term. As a general rule of thumb, if you are over the age of 30, you probably shouldn’t be walking around using phrases like “that Porsche was evil; bitch was all murdered out!”
Some people give credit to Rob Drydek (professional skateboarder) for coining the term on his MTV reality show. Regardless of its origin, it simply refers to a car that has been completely blacked out: black paint, black wheels, calipers, interior, trim, tint, accessories, etc.
Today’s trend on these blacked out cars seems to be taking things a step further. In late 2007 Gemballa unveiled their Mirage GT Black Edition in an amazing “flat black”. Normally, I’m not a big fan of Gemballa. I like what they do from a tuning standpoint, but for me their styling is a little too over the top. However, in this instance, I think they got it right.
After seeing all the interest in the Gemballa Mirage GT, I was curious. How many other flat black cars were out there, specifically flat black Porsches? Surprisingly I found quite a few (including the one at the top of this post). At the end of this post are a few additional pictures (you can click on any one of them for a full size view).

Love all the flat paints, the reds, blacks, and golds as a change, but they definitely need some color accents or they look too weird. Maybe it’s a return to the ’50s when the cool cars were painted with flat primers – appealed to only a few people back then, though. Mostly, those cars were awaitng expensive paint jobs at the Kustom shop. I bet this “new” matte paint is pricey beyond all imagination.
Here in vancouver,,bc a local shop (srmotors) does all the high end lambos, ferraris, mercedes in matte black 3m that once the owner doesnt want it anymore can be removed from the original paint without scratching etc…about 15000 cdn i think…it actually protects the cars…i like the audi r8 done like this
I have a flat black 914. The color is not really “flat black” it is rustoleum ” Hot Rod Black”. A bit different from “flat” black. I want to put “Martini” stripes on the vehicle, but I have not yet decided whether the stripes should be in the original shiny reds and blues or make them shades of black. I would like to see a few Real Black cars.
