It's too hard to tell by just the picture, but you probably can assume that there is water damage too. Not sure if the sand was able to get into the car (or more importantly, the motor) but most likely it did. My guess is the car is "totaled" meaning the damage is more extensive then the replacement value. If that is the case, some states will issue it a salvage title and it will be sold at auction for parts. Other states will allow it to be resold back into the open market and in that case, it is buyer beware. Hence the name of the article. @RHM
