$25k? $50k? $100k? How about $1,000,000? That’s what the seller of this Taito Chase H.Q. full motion simulator is asking? Not familiar with Taito or Chase H.Q.? Don’t worry, unless you were addicted to video arcade games in the early 80’s you are probably not alone.

Some of you may remember that it wasn’t all that long ago when John was trying to convince me we needed a Porsche pinball machine. Well, it would seem he’s found something similar that we MUST have. <strike>Fortunately</strike> Unfortunately, this one looks like it just might be a bit out of reach, at least from a pricing expectation standpoint. The seller has a buy it now price of $1,000,000. They can’t be serious, can they? This is just a strategy to get their listing noticed and published on sites like ours, isn’t it?

After a bit of research I found that the Taito Chase H.Q was released in 1988 and featured a Porsche driving (a black Porsche 928), miami-vice looking, criminal chasing cop named Tony Gibson. Apparently Tony, and his partner Raymond Broady, were part of the Chase Special Investigations Department. It was their role, that you as the game player filled, by chasing down the bad guys in their two speed, turbo powered Porsche 928.

At the start of each game you learn who you will be chasing and how far away they are from you. It’s your job to chased them down and then run them off the road with a few well placed bumps (in my opinion a great way to dispose of most criminals). Each time you run down a criminal you advance to the next level and chase down a new car. All in all there are five levels and five criminals driving five completely different cars:

Ralph, the Idaho Slasher (White Lotus Esprit)

Carlos, the New York armed robber (Yellow Lamborghini Countach)

Chicago pushers (White Porsche 911)

L.A kidnapper (Blue Ferrari 288 GTO)

Eastern Bloc Spy (Red Porsche 928)

While the seller of the simulator in question might be a bit over the top in their price and description this does look like a fun game for a Porsche enthusiast who also likes arcade games. If you’re not interested in a “full motion” simulator that may take up as much room in your garage as the real thing, I also found a site that offers the stand-up version and for considerably less money.

So, what do you think, will the simulator version sell? The price is obviously a gimmick, so if does sell, how much will it go for? I already offered them $500

That short post chronicled some of the unique features of the Porsche along with a question about celebrity provenance and pricing.

Shortly after posting that article I was contacted by well know Porsche expert, and Seinfeld’s long time fleet manager, Sam Cabiglio. Sam was kind enough to point out a few errors in the provenance of the car, as well as give some additional color commentary on Seinfeld’s 993 Turbo S (along with his thoughts as to its uniqueness and value.) A few weeks after these two posts published the car was sold to a well known collector in Atlanta, Georgia.

Imagine my surprise as I was searching eBay today for my Porsche eBay find of the Month, I was shocked to see the car for sale again so soon. According to the advertisement on eBay, the current owner is “condensing” his collection and this is one of the cars that is being offered for sale. As a reminder, here are some of the unique features of this particular ’97 Porsche Turbo S (besides the fact that it was previously owned by one of Porsche’s best known collectors.)

Jerry Seinfeld’s 1997 Porsche Turbo S Features

1st Turbo S built and imported to the US

The only one produced in Turquoise Blue (the color is slowly growing on me)

Factory cell phone with special console

The first of only 175 built in 1997 and one of only 345 total between ’97 and ‘98 (production numbers vary by a few cars depending on source. My numbers are courtesy of (Adrian Streather’s “Porsche 993 The Essential Companion”)

I have an email and a call (from a mutual friend) into the current owner. I’m hoping that later today or tomorrow I can have a more in-depth follow-up, with any additional information, on the car along with how he chose this particular Porsche to sell from his collection. I would also like to know what, if any, additional cars he may be selling.

In this post a few days ago I thought I was helping to “set the record straight” with regard to a Porsche 993 Turbo S previously owned by Jerry Seinfeld. As it turns out, despite my best efforts, I only helped to add to the confusion. To prepare for this article, I contacted Richard Sloan (previous owner/seller of the car) along with TruSpeed Motorcars (current owner/seller of the car). The information I printed in that article was taken directly from those conversations.

Much to my surprise and chagrin I recently received an email from none other than Sam Cabiglio himself (he left me his phone number in order to validate his identity) with some changes to the “facts” as I had posted them and as they had been told to me by the people involved. After a lengthy, enjoyable, and insightful conversation with Sam it seems I can now, truly, say I’ve spoken to all the sources. It would have been great to hear directly from Jerry too, but that might be asking for a bit too much.

Here is What I Originally Posted

Seinfeld had the car as part of his collection until sometime in late 2005 early 2006

It was then offered for sale by Seinfeld’s fleet manager (Sam Cabiglio) through Richard Sloan of Sloan Cars in CT (Richard has sold other Seinfeld cars in the past)

Richard sold the car to a private collector

The car then returned to Sloan (via the unnamed private collector) and was subsequently sold to TruSpeed about six (6) months ago

The car is fully documented as to provenance, ownership and service history

Here are the Changes to those Statements Based on my Conversation with Sam

The car was not offered for sale by Sam through Richard Sloan. Instead, the car was sold by Sam to a private collector in April of 2005. Sam does not sell cars “through” Richard Sloan or anyone else for that matter.

The private buyer above then sold the car to Richard Sloan in February of 2006

All other points/facts remain the same. This has been an interesting learning experience for me. I made it a point to go out of my way and call the people involved to get the facts. It just goes to show there are at least three sides to every story.

I hope this “sets the record straight” for all. Special thanks to Sam for the extra information!

Ok, so we’ve already posted our eBay Find of the Month for February. Truth be told, we never know what we’re going to find or when we are going to find it, so the title is simply a place holder. Anyway, we enjoy spending time on eBay finding rare, odd and one-of-a-kind Porsche objects. If you ever see something you think belongs here be sure to let us know. Today’s find is a little tongue-in-cheek, but you never know, some of you might think it is a must have.

Here’s a mod I bet you haven’t done

For the Porsche owner who has done every possible modification and upgrade available, we present the perfect gift. Tired of that unsightly electronic toll-pass sitting in your window. Don’t like advertising for the toll company or the bank that sponsors it. Here’s your answer.

The Porsche TagSack

This is a soft-sided sack that fits over electronic toll collection tags nationwide. No more need to use glue, velcro or tape to hold your responder to the windshield! You no longer have to hide the Toll Tag in the windshield tint strip (illegal placement), or hold it up as you drive through the toll plaza (illegal use). Use TAGSAK™ to safely position your toll pass without affecting your car’s appearance.

Don’t take our word for it, check out the listing on eBay
