We know NISSAN GTR has more horsepower. After searching around, actually nissan started this way (hiding horsepower) in Skyline R33 GT-R(280ps/3366lbs). From the 1/4 mile R33 GT-R spends 13.431 seconds, but porsche 997 C4 with 325ps/3190 lbs uses 13.2 seconds. BUT R35, maybe NISSAN does too much ;-)

Well. So they made it clear that they were aiming at Porsche. Then, Nissan attempted to convince the automotive world they had exceeded the performance of the Porsche Turbo by posting several extremely fast Nurburgring times attained by the GTR, the fastest being 7:29. I think it is clear that Nissan started this rivalry. I think Porsche has every right to call Nissan out when they suspect Nissan may have cheated a little to get those low laptimes.There is also a very good article at http://www.speedsportlife.com/2008/10/01/avoidable-contact-17-cheating-nissan-bitter-porsche/#more-945 which explains in great detail why low laptimes at the Ring may not be the end all of car performance after all. It is a good read, I suggest taking a look.

In the seven years Nissan spent developing the GTR, they displayed several videos and pictures in which a Porsche Turbo was seen accompanying the GTR on the Nurburgring. Having owned 3 Nissan Z cars and now a Porsche 996, and actively shopping for a GT3, I agree that the GTR may be technologically superior to the 997GT2, but I wouldn't hesitate for a second to take a GT2 over a GTR. One has soul, one does not. The Nissan is a outstanding car, but it's no Porsche. This is Strictly my opinion - so there's no need to agree or disagree, as there is no right or wrong, just personal preference.

This rivalry will be going on for years. It's left to the integrity of the manufacturer or the one making the claim. I'm sure an independent company could be brought in to monitor things and make a final ruling, but I think the rivalry is good for both companies and it keeps things interesting.

@RackandOpinion

No, and I’m not sure we ever will as there really is no “official” timing on the Nurburgring for these type of tests.
