[...] Check out PorschePursist.com for a great Porsche 911 Turbo S video – John over at PorschePurist.com posted up a great video showing the history of the Porsche 911 Turbo S. I love these videos that Porsche releases showing where particular models or specialty cars have come from and how they've progressed over the years. It's easy to get lost in the years in between the release of some of these models and this helps bring it all together. Check it out on PorschePurist.com.
@Stefanos,

I think, for those of us introduced to the brand through air-cooled cars, we will always have an affinity for those older models vs. the newer 996/997 variants. In addition, over the years, Porsche has become much more of a "mass produced" sports car vs. the lower production numbers seen during the years of the 964 and 993.

Why is it that the 964 and 993 variants are so much more appealing to me....
where does this bias stem from ? surely the new cars are a technological tour de force, but why is it that I have such a hard time getting excited about them
Money no object the older cars are more desirable and that is also reflected in their market prices which for both 964 and 993 variants exceed those of the new 2011 turbo S; I certainly cannot see the 2011 cars holding their values like that in the future
It has to be that certain "Porscheness" factor they posses that people associate with this great marque and the newer vehicles have such a hard time re-capturing (their saving grace is the association with the great ones from the past)
Whatever happened to "Driving in its purest form" I question, no wonder the slogan is no longer used as it is not valid within the current range of cars
