Hey Linn -- I too enjoyed a lap in the Cayenne with Hurley. While I enjoyed the lap in a Carrera S much more, I had to finally give the GTS credit...it's not as bad as it is made out to be. :)

I enjoyed your experience in the Cayenne. I grew to really like the vehicle during my 8 years selling Porsche. The highlight of my Cayenne enjoyment was a trip around the Barber track in Birmingham in a Cayenne Turbo with Hurley Haywood at the helm. Great experience.

"Porschephiles who despise the Cayenne and consider it an abomination"

Yep, I'd be in that camp. The cars you desired in your youth are the same ones I've always lusted after as well, because those cars were built under the traditional Porsche philosophy. I know Porsche is a business and saw an opportunity to sell loads expensive cars to people who just know the badge, but that doesn't mean it was right. These buyers dilute the brand in my mind as they may never know or experience the real thing, but they've owned a "Porsche".

I acknowledge that it probably is a fine ride and if it was badged as nearly anything else I'd likely have no issue. But I don't think I'll ever be able to connect the dots to acknowledge that the Cayenne is a Porsche.

While it's a good article, I just find it ironic that it's posted on a site called Porsche Purist ;)
