I used the word “close” liberally. Boxster was shown in 1993 at Detroit (so 17 years ago, or “close” to 20).

Carrera GT was shown in France, but not as a concept, already planned for production.

@John,

I’m curious as to why you feel that way? Is it personal preference? Simply what you’re used to? Or something else. I only ask, as I too used to harbor these same type of feelings. It wasn’t until I had the chance to go really see what PDK could do on the track (and how much faster it was) that I came to accept it…

If they only offer it with the PDK transmission and no true manual transmission then to me it’s a fail.

The Porsche 918: a.k.a. what the Toyota Prius had the potential to be if its sticky accelerator pedal was connected to a better motor and wrapped in prettier packaging.

I always thought it would be a cold day in Hell before Porsche started making hybrids. But now that they are, I’m glad to see their method behind it is not “increased economy at the expense of performance” but rather “increased performance that happens to be more economical” — ‘more’ being a very subjective word there. I doubt this car will get 30mpgs but that’s not what you buy a supercar for!

I am very interested to see if this technology trickles down to the carrera 4′s. I’m also hopeful, but doubtful, that they would integrate this technology with Caymans and Boxsters — if they held the road any better than they do now, Porsche would have even more trouble selling 911s.
